When a calf is born, the dad disappears from the mom and calf for about a month. It's thought that he is out protecting the calf!

When they move their tails up and down, the light reflects off of the white hairs. The blue duikers use these reflections as signals in the dark!

Teaching Facts:

1. Blue duikers are small antelope and the smallest of all duikers!

2. "Duik" means "diver" in Afrikaans, and "duiker" means "diver" in Dutch. Duikers dive into vegetation to hide themselves, so that's why they're called duikers!

3. Because birds and monkeys eat similar foods to what blue duikers eat, the blue duikers sometimes follow these other animals. This can lead them to food!
